ABET Accreditation

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳’s bachelor’s degree program in engineering has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, , under the commission’s General Criteria. ABET is the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

The 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ engineering Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes have been developed with input from the faculty and the advisory board and are listed below.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The goal of the 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Engineering Program is to prepare our graduates for professional practice or advanced studies by providing a broad education in engineering fundamentals in a liberal arts environment. 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Engineering graduates will:

  1. Be active in engineering practice or find that their engineering background and problem-solving skills were helpful in non-engineering fields such as law, medicine, and business.
  2. Continue their career development by engaging in life-long learning that builds upon foundational knowledge acquired as part of their undergraduate education.
  3. Find that their undergraduate liberal arts education helped prepare them to contribute to the greater benefit of society.

The program constituencies responsible for review of the program educational objectives are (1) program alumni, (2) potential employers, and (3) potential graduate school advisors as they have a stake in the quality and characteristics of the program graduates. The Professional Advisory Board serves as a representative sample of these constituents and reviews the program educational objectives at least every other year.

Student outcomes

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Engineering students will have:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
