The Estudiantina musical ensemble of the Autonomous University of Queretaro in Mexico will perform in concert on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ in the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The 20-member group will be on campus in conjunction with the dedication celebration for the college's new Martha Miller Center for Global Communication. La Estudiantina will also be performing briefly immediately following the dedication ceremony for the building, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 14, at 12:30 p.m.

Hope has an ongoing exchange relationship with the Autonomous University of Queretaro, and Holland and Santiago de Queretaro have been sister cities since 1995. La Estudiantina previously performed in the college's DeWitt Center in 1998.

Formed in 1963, La Estudiantina blends vocalists with instruments such as the guitar, mandolin and violin. The ensemble has toured around the world, with performances in Central, North and South America, and Spain, France and Italy. In 1989, La Estudiantina became the first Mexican group to perform in Albania, and in 2003 the group was honored during the General Audience of His Holiness John Paul II in the Vatican City. Through its 42 years of existence, the group has recorded 14 records and compact discs.

The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. 8th St. The Martha Miller Center for Global Communication is located on Columbia Avenue at 10th Street.
