The department of art at 91̳ will feature producer/director Pamela Tanner Boll and a screening of her new film "Who Does She Think She Is?" on Wednesday, April 21, at 7 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
A talk with Boll will follow the screening.
"Who Does She Think She Is?" examines pressing contemporary issues such as parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art. The film follows five women artists as they navigate the economic, psychological, and spiritual challenges of making work outside the elite art world. From Hawaii's BigIsland to the suburbs of Ohio, from New York City to the deserts of New Mexico, the women - ranging in age from 27 to 65 - fight to honor their vision and their families every day.
The Wellesley Center for Women has said that "(this film) is not about being a woman or being a woman artist but rather how to be a human, how to find your true place in life."
Boll is a writer, artist, activist, and filmmaker. She was co-producer of the Academy-award winning "Born into Brothels: The Kids of Calcutta's Red Light District," and has worked on several other films.
91̳ contributors to the event include the "Opus" literary magazine, the office of student development, and the departments of communication, English, theatre and women's studies.
The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. Eighth St., between College and Columbia avenues.
